Its All About The Music

Its been a while since I have posted, but the clarity of the everchanging landscape of music is this. Its all about the music. Not the hype or fantasy of being famous, either on a large scale or small. Its not about being overproduced or having a complete "package" of looks, managers, mega marketing gurus etc. With all of our options for consuming music, we dont have to care about any of it other than the stuff that moves us. The live show is where the fans will be. IF your music moves people. Its all coming full circle and the cream will rise to the top. People cant care about all the bullshit that's out there floating around. They care about what they like and what moves them. THAT'S what a fan is. That is who comes to your show and THAT is who cares. To quote Bob Lefsetz "The major label game, as played for the past two decades, is dying of its own accord. Its got nothing to do with theft. Its got to do with the splintering of the marketplace. Now you've got to come up with something that's great, that's lasting, and convince a hard core of fans that your real. You need a steady stream of product to keep them engaged. The mega tour every three years is less important than just showing up on a regular basis, sans production, everywhere those interested live. Play LIVE. Bottom line? This is good for music. Your music has to be considered good. BY THE TARGET AUDIENCE! Then you need to focus on growing that audience by motivating those presently interested, not trying to convert blocks of people who don't care by flogging them again and again in old media. To have a lasting career in music on any level, you have to put the music (and the fans) first."
